Course Objectives This course covers the common diseases of genetic, hematology, respiratory, circulatory, urinary, endocrine system diseases and metabolic disorders. The aim is to learn the pathogenesis, epidemiological features, symptoms and signs of these diseases, and related diagnostic algorithms, drugs used in treatment, management and prevention strategies.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • 1. Explain the pathogenesis of respiratory system diseases; associate the related signs and symptoms with the pathophysiological mechanisms.
  • 2. Generate evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms for selected respiratory system diseases by using the principles of critical thinking and clinical reasoning, taking into account the mechanisms of action and adverse effects of drugs used in the management of these disorders.
  • 3. Explain the pathophysiology of acid-base and fluid-electrolyte disorders.
  • 4. Explain the pathogenesis of cardiovascular system diseases; associate the related signs and symptoms with the pathophysiological mechanisms.
  • 5. Generate evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms for selected cardiovascular system diseases by using the principles of critical thinking and clinical reasoning, taking into account the mechanisms of action and adverse effects of drugs used in the management of these disorders.
  • 6. Explain the pathophysiological mechanisms of genetic diseases and the principles of genetic counseling.
  • 7. Explain the pathogenesis of hematological system diseases; associate the related signs and symptoms with the pathophysiological mechanisms.
  • 8. Generate evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms for selected hematological system disorders by using the principles of critical thinking and clinical reasoning, taking into account the mechanisms of action and adverse effects of drugs used in the management of these disorders.
  • 9. Explain the pathogenesis of urinary system diseases, associate the related signs and symptoms with the pathophysiological mechanisms.
  • 10. Generate evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms for selected urinary system diseases by using the principles of critical thinking and clinical reasoning, taking into account the mechanisms of action and adverse effects of drugs used in the management of these disorders.
  • 11. Explain the pathogenesis of endocrine system diseases and metabolic disorders, associate the related signs and symptoms with the pathophysiological mechanisms.
  • 12. Generate evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms for selected endocrine system diseases by using the principles of critical thinking and clinical reasoning, taking into account the mechanisms of action and adverse effects of drugs used in the management of these disorders.
  • 13. Suggest lifestyle interventions for prevention and treatment by evaluating the relationship of diseases with lifestyle.
  • 14. Use reflective practice and self-evaluation for personal and professional development and collects personal achievement artifacts in an electronic format.
Course Description In this course, pathophysiology, diagnostic algorithms and treatment options of genetic, blood, respiratory, circulatory, urinary, endocrine system and metabolic disorders will be discussed.
