Course Objectives In this course, we aimed to have the students explain public health practices at community level, define health status and important health problems, apply health education, water analysis and chlorination, family planning counseling and monitoring, functionality and risk assessment in the elderly, and make suggestions for the management of risks in the elderly.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • 1- Define health status and important health problems using the sociodemographic data and health indicators of the population.
  • 2- Explain the units and responsibilities of the District Health Directorates.
  • 3- Explain health promotion programs implemented in Turkey.
  • 4- Will be able to explain the mechanisms of infectious diseases control in the population (detection, notification, filiation, epidemic investigation and control methods, measures to prevent infections in public living areas).
  • 5- Take a water sample, evaluate the chlorine level, disinfect the water
  • 6- Provide family planning consultancy and monitor users.
  • 7- Explain the screening programs (hearing, newborn metabolic and endocrine disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, cervical cancer, premarital screening programs) carried out by the Ministry of Health.
  • 8- Can explain school health services.
  • 9- Explain the management of the expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) at district level (determining target groups, calculating vacination rates and vaccine requirements, monitoring cold chain practices).
  • 10. Provide health education at group level.
  • 11- Explain how to provide counseling services (tobacco cessation, healthy nutrition, physical activity) to improve lifestyle and explain outcomes to patients and/or their relatives.
  • 12- Explain the management and reporting of tuberculosis cases in tuberculosis dispensaries.
  • 13- Evaluate functionality and risks in the elderly and make suggestions for the management of risks.
  • 14- Explain how the death certicates are filled.
  • 15- Discuss the ethical problems related to public health services.
  • 16- Evaluate health service quality in Turkey taking into account organization and financial characteristics of the health system and discuss recommendations to improve it.
  • 17- Use reflective practice and self-evaluation for personal and professional development and collects personal achievement artifacts in an electronic format.
Course Description This course will include practices for public health, health management and primary health care delivery.
