Course Objectives We aim to have the students learn determinants of health, health indicators, concepts related to health services, basic characteristics of Turkey Health System, health services provided by different health institutions, the history medical profession and its values and responsibilities.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • 1- To define disease and health according biopsychosocial perspectives.
  • 2- List the factors such as genetic, nutritional, environmental, occupational, psychological, social, cultural, educational, economical and life style factors affecting health.
  • 3- List the determinants of health and their effects on health.
  • 4- Define health indicators (morbidity, mortality, burden of disease).
  • 5- List the leading causes of death and diseases at national and global level.
  • 6- Classify health service, explain the importance and characteristics of first level of care,
  • 7- Define primary health care and primary, secondary and tertiary preventive measures.
  • 8- Explain the history of Turkish health system.
  • 9- List the health services provided in different health institutions (first, secondary and tertiary level) in Turkey.
  • 10- Define Turkish Health System with basic organization and financing characteristics.
  • 11- Describe the historical development of medicine.
  • 12- Explain the values and responsibilities of medical profession.
  • 13- Explain the social and health problems of the disadvantaged people (elderly, disabled people, refugees) and recommendations to improve their health status.
Course Description In this course, determinants of health, health indicators, basic characteristics of Health System of Türkiye, the history of medicine, its values and responsibilities of medical profession will be addressed
