Artist doctor
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Medicine student İrem Sezginer never gave up on the violin, which she started playing at the age of 9, and became the character of an exemplary success story by continuing her education with her passion for art., who continues her medical education at IUE Medical Point Hospital as a physician-in-training, also participates in concerts as an artist of the Mozart Akademi Gençlik ve Senfoni Orkestrası (Youth and Symphony Orchestra). Sezginer, who also benefited from the art scholarship provided by IUE, thanks to her passion for violin, said, “The violin relaxes me, it gives me energy. I definitely feed off of art, I get strength from it. When I was a kid, I dreamed of being a doctor and playing the violin very well. I'm happy that I'm living my childhood dreams right now”.
İrem Sezginer (22), a 5th grade student at IUE Faculty of Medicine, wanted to learn to play the violin because she loved how it sounded when she was going to primary school. Her family did not refuse their daughter's request and began to make Sezginer take private lessons from state artists. Sezginer immediately proved her talent in playing the violin and developed herself rapidly in a short time. Sezginer, who wanted to certify her success on the violin, achieved this goal by taking the London College of Music (LCM) exams affiliated with West London University.
ENCOURAGED BY ART SCHOLARSHIP
Sezginer succeeded in becoming a music high school graduate level with an internationally valid certificate. Sezginer, who has given many concerts in various orchestras and encouraged her peers to start playing the violin, also continued her education along with her passion for art. Sezginer, who was entitled to receive the art scholarship, which IUE started to give to encourage students interested in art, with her studies and achievements to date, stated that this motivated her a lot and that she held on to both art and education even more with the encouragement of art scholarship. Sezginer also said that she wants to be a good doctor by continuing her medical education at Izmir University of Economics Medical Point Hospital.
I WANT TO HELP PEOPLE
Stating that her interest in art has provided her with many opportunities to date, Sezginer said, “I have loved the sound of violin since I was little. I have always enjoyed playing the violin, so I have always embraced the violin with interest. I've never quit playing the violin in my life. I took part in school choirs, concerts of various orchestras, and took part in some social responsibility projects. I certified my success in violin with an international certificate with the London College of Music exams affiliated with West London University. Art has always been indispensable for me. Of course, the support my family gave me in this regard also encouraged and motivated me. Art has always been very important to me. However, another important and necessary issue was my education. Studying medicine and doing studies that will be beneficial to people has always excited me. I worked hard, I had difficulties from time to time, but I did not give up on my goal. Finally, I entered the university and program I wanted.”
AFTER THE HOSPITAL I GO TO THE REHEARSALS
Sezginer continued as follows: “As expected, my classes are intense, it is not easy to study medicine. However, if you plan your day and use your time correctly, it is possible to allocate time for everything. That's how I do it. I continue my education as a medical student, and improve myself in my profession. In addition, I continue to take part in the concerts of the orchestra I am involved in. We give concerts in various art centers in Izmir. We work on average two days a week. Sometimes, after I leave the hospital, I attend events or rehearsals. Art takes my tiredness, when I take the violin in my hand, I rest, and I am full of energy. Along with my success in school, I was also entitled to receive the scholarship given by my university, thanks to my certificate of success in the violin. I can say that art has a positive effect on my education in every aspect.”
ART AND SPORTS CAN BE MANAGED AT THE SAME TIME
Expressing that she would like to continue her career as a specialist physician by succeeding the TUS (exam for the medical specialty) in the future, Sezginer said, “I have two years to graduate, I don't want to say anything definitive right now. However, I can say that I will never give up art after succeeding in TUS and getting my expertise. I'm confident. There are those who think that education and art or sports cannot be managed together. This is absolutely wrong. On the contrary, they can be managed very efficiently. I think I have proven that. I especially recommend to all my friends to develop themselves in the fields they are interested in, in the fields they see as a hobby, in the branches of art or sports.”
