European medical students get a director from Izmir
Dilge Kocabaş, a student at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Medicine, has been elected to the position of "director" at the European Medical Students' Association (EMSA), which includes 130 universities from 30 countries and is headquartered in Belgium. Kocabaş, who has been elected the "medical science director" of EMSA, which continues its activities under 6 different titles, will coordinate many studies including scientific research on public health, meeting the educational needs of students and developing projects related to these. Stating that she was proud to be selected for such an important task, Kocabaş said, “EMSA brings together medical students by holding congresses in two different countries every year. I will try to organize one of the events in our country, in Izmir indeed. I would love to host medical students from different countries.”
Dilge Kocabaş, a 4th year student at IUE Faculty of Medicine, stated that EMSA, which was founded in 1990, is an independent organization recognized by the United Nations and the European Parliament, with more than 30 thousand members. Expressing that all activities as an association continue under the headings of 'medical education', 'medical ethics and human rights', 'health policy', 'public health', 'medical science', and 'European integration and culture', Kocabaş stated that there is a director in every field.
I WILL DO MY BEST
IUE student Kocabaş said, “I am very happy to be in such a qualified and special position. My work so far has also been influential in my coming to office. I have participated in many international events before. I attended many prestigious events such as the 71st Board Meeting of the World Health Organization Regional Committee for Europe, the World Health Organization Youth and Young Professionals (YPYP) Forum, and the European Medical Education Association Conference. I think that the experience I have gained here will give me an advantage during my time as a director. I also represent my country in this position. I am aware of my responsibility and will try to do my best. We are in a difficult pandemic period. At this point, it is very important to direct medical students to scientific research and to help them improve themselves by getting the best education. These will be my top priority.”
